Scarlet Rose Farm Rescue was founded by Katharine "Kate" Thurlow in 2008. Ms. Thurlow has ridden and owned horses since the age of five. She started the rescue after learning of the plight of horses on the east coast heading to slaughter in Canada for human consumption abroad. The mission of SRFER is as many horses as possible from slaughter. Since being founded in 2008 the rescue has saved 14 horses from slaughter and worked to find them ideal forever homes.

The horses are rescued from auctions and feedlots in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. When the horses arrive at the rescue they undergo a 30 day quarantine period at SRFER's offsite QT facility where they will receive their initial Vet & Farrier care and begin the process of evaluation on the ground. After the horses are fully quarantined and up to date on their vaccinations and wormings they are moved the main barn where they will continue their evaluation process on the ground and under saddle.

Once the rescues are fully evaluated under saddle and its determined what a good rider match would be the horse will become available for adoption. All horses adopted through SRFR are placed with a contract and an application and full reference check are required prior to placement.

The rescues are all ridden and trained by Kate and SRFER's assistant trainer, Amanda "Mandi" Somerset. Mandi is a great asset to the rescue and is an amazing rider and trainer when riding horses or ponies. Over the years she has been an integral part in the evaluation, training, conditioning and placement of many horses and ponies saved by SRFER.

Mandi is available for off-site training. Ponies are her speciality! If interested please contact the rescue for her information.
